Unifire AB of Sweden has just completed the installation of its most advanced networked system of it's "Force" series, remote control water/foam monitors (also known as "turrets" or "water cannons") for the fire protection of a brand new power plant in Schwedt, Germany.
Detailed information about the plant, which is scheduled to open for full commercial operation at the beginning of 2010, can be found at http://www.leipa.de/en/kraftwerk.php?catS=999
The Unifire system works automatically to protect the facility from fires that break out in the incineration pit.
In the event of a fire, the system detects it, locates it, and automatically targets the fire. The Unifire Control System ("UCS") coordinates all nodes on the network, such as the monitors themselves, the valves to the respective monitors, the opening of the cabinet doors in which the monitors sit protected, swinging arms that pull the monitors out of the cabinets for deployment, and much more.
According to a Unifire spokesman, "Unifire is at the cutting-edge of networked firefighting systems that take full advantage of state-of-the-art electronic and software technologies to produce systems that are more effective at rapid intervention and accurate targeting of fires before they get out of control. We believe that this installation is among the most advanced firefighting systems in the world."
